Police hope YouTube video will help Wendy Ladner-Beaudry homicide investigation

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s been nearly a year since the body of Wendy Ladner-Beaudry was discovered in Pacific Spirit Park, and with the RCMP no closer to finding her killer, they’ve posted a YouTube video in an effort to generate more leads.

Approximately 250 tips came in after Ladner-Beaudry’s death on April 3, 2009.  All were investigated, but RCMP still have no suspects.  A video has been posted on YouTube, and the RCMP website, hopefully to jog someone’s memory.  The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says they’ve never used this tactic before as part of a murder investigation.

Corporal Dale Carr of IHIT says the area where Ladner-Beaudry’s body was found borders busy South West Marine Drive, so there is a good chance there are witnesses out there. “It’s incredible the amount of activity that goes on in this park, and (yet) this murder was able to occur and there’s no witnesses that have come forward to date.”

IHIT is also continuing to go through a 270-name ‘persons of interest’ list, which they hope might lead to a suspect.  The family of the 53 year old mother is asking anyone who saw something that day, near the Camosun entrance to Pacific Spirit Park, to call police.

The RCMP also posted a note from the Ladner family:  

“All of Wendy’s family and friends, particularly her immediate family, have been through a year of unimaginable heartbreak since the tragic events of Apr. 3, 2009,” said her brother Peter Ladner in a prepared statement.

“We have to take advantage of this grisly anniversary to remind people that this senseless, unprovoked attack may never be solved if someone doesn’t come forward with a clue as to who did it. As far as we know, the police have no suspects, so we are pinning our hopes on someone with inside knowledge deciding that it is time to talk to the police. After a year, the murderer may have let something slip, or long-standing suspicions may have developed around someone’s behaviour who could have been involved. For Wendy’s sake, and for the sake of all her family and friends, please talk to the police if you’ve heard anything at all.

“Without closure on this gruesome attack, our lives will always be tormented by the pain of not knowing who did it, wondering whether Wendy’s daughters and all the women who live near Pacific Spirit Park are safe from another attack.

“As a passionate advocate of outdoor exercise and recreation, Wendy would have been devastated that her favourite running area has turned into a place of fear because this crime remains unsolved.”
