VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s not only alcohol that can impair your judgment behind the wheel. Combining prescription medication with some over the counter drugs can have the same impact.
B.C. Pharmacy Association President Shakeel Bhatti says all medications have clear instructions on the label, but if you don’t read the fine print, you won’t be aware of some the side-effects they can cause.
Certain antihistamines and cough medicines that contain alcohol can affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. Bhatti tells us you won’t get a verbal warning unless you buy them from a pharmacist.
He says even some herbs and vitamins can have a harmful effect when combined with certain prescription drugs like antidepressants.
