VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Vancouver Police say they’ve cracked a stolen property ring, and have recovered about $250,000 in name-brand clothing and merchandise.
An apartment on Victoria Drive was raided on Saturday.
Police say its door was open and when they arrived, 10 people were trying on jackets from clothing racks in the living room.
Sgt. Randy Fincham says officers were working on a tip from the public. “When police began conducting their investigation they found an apartment in the area that was essentially being run as retail store that had clothing racks, a cashier system, had a change room, and had a significantly large amount of high-end clothing.”
“We do believe these were all items that were stolen from either local retail chains or possibly some chains from outside the province,” explains Fincham.
He says they have seen these types of operations before. “We do the best we can to investigate, identify the people involved, and return the property to the lawful owners.”
The kitchen in the 500 square foot suite was apparently used as a display case for designer wallets and perfumes, and there was even a changing room.
Police say the merch was being sold at one third of the retail price.
Two middle aged women have been arrested.
