Seaplane pilot says drone came within 10 feet of windshield near YVR

RICHMOND (NEWS 1130) – There has been another close call involving a flight near YVR and a drone. This time, it involved a seaplane.

There is an active water runway on the south side of the airport that serves floatplane operators around the South Coast.

At about 6:45 p.m. on Monday, a Seaair Cessna was trying to land there when the pilot reported a black drone with four propellers, which apparently missed the aircraft windshield by just 10 feet.

The plane was just 40 feet from touching down on the river.

A report filed by the company to Transport Canada says the drone then turned north toward the airport before the pilot lost sight of it.

Mounties in Richmond are now trying to track down the owner.

Over the last year, there have been several reports of drones being operated dangerously around YVR.
