OSOYOOS (NEWS 1130) – The Rock Creek wildfire has scorched 30 homes and 11 structures in the Southern Interior near Osoyoos.
Many more homes are still in danger.
Hundreds of homes are still under evacuation order and at risk of falling to the same fate.
The weather conditions led to this fire blazing a path of destruction according to fire information officer Jordan Turner
“The fire grew quite quickly early on, it displayed extremely aggressive fire behaviour. It was wind-driven and high temperatures along with low relative humidity”
Turner is hoping a change in weather could help them contain this fire that has spread to over 3,700 hectares.
He says this fire like any caused by people was preventable, and an unnecessary expensive use of resources.
