SURREY (NEWS 1130) – The case of Maple Batalia, who was killed in Surrey four years ago, has received a lot of attention as it makes its way through the courts.
Batalia’s ex-boyfriend pleaded guilty, sentenced to life with no change of parole for 21 years.
Angela Marie McDougal with the Battered Women’s Support Services says this case highlights how lethal domestic violence can be.
“The whole issue of teen dating violence is something that we have to begin to understand, appreciate and clearly see that it has as much of a lethality factor as adult partner violence,” she explains. “It highlights the critical reality that we haven’t even begun to get at the root of male violence against women and we have a whole lot more work to do.”
The trial for the second person charged in the case continues.
