Inner City Kids Week hopes to raise $100,000 for the children who need it most

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Inner City Kids Week in Vancouver starts tomorrow. There is a “Pulling for Inner City Kids” tug of war, a silent auction and gala all happening this week.

Catherine Atyeo with community based charity Contributing to the Lives of Inner City Kids (CLICK) says this year’s goal is to raise $100,000. “We have to care about these kids because they are our future, they are not just our future citizens, they are our future employees, our future customers if you are a business. It is in our interest that these kids thrive and succeed.”

Since 2004, CLICK has raised more than $350,000 and directed it to 187 programs that provide inner city kids with support. “This is a wide range of programs, everything from food, because there are a lot of hungry kids in Vancouver, to safe out-of-school care, to sports and recreation, to camps, and the arts. These kids come from working poor families and their families are just struggling to provide the basics.”

She adds over 85,000 kids in Metro Vancouver go to school hungry every day.
