VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Premier John Horgan is not cancelling plans to hold a $500 a plate fundraiser for the NDP on August 24th.
“We’ve done this for ten years. It’s local in my community,” Horgan says.
However, he is suggesting the annual golf tournament and dinner at the Bear Mountain Resort will likely be the last, before he makes good on a promise to get big money out of politics.
“The first order of business of the new government, after I think the supremacy of Parliament is Bill 1. I suspect Bill 2 will be to ban union and corporate donations”
Horgan insists he’s still committed to banning corporate and union donations.
“We’ll table the legislation in September and people will have an opportunity to look at it then and the Legislature’s not sitting. The legislature will sit in September and it’s a commitment we made during the election. It’s a commitment we’ll deliver on in the first days of the session.”
The event, which could raise more than $20,000 for the NDP, has drawn the ire of Green Party Leader Andrew Weaver, who believes Horgan should have cancelled it.
