Wind warning in place for Metro Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – You’ll not only need an umbrella and your gumboots this weekend, but you may need to hold on to your hat.

Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for all of Metro Vancouver and the agency expects the gusts to get pretty strong.

Southeast winds may hit up to 80 km/h and it’s expected to develop late Saturday afternoon over the Sunshine Coast and East Vancouver Island as a Pacific weather system moves over the South Coast.

The strong winds will then spread toward Metro Vancouver, the Gulf Islands and Victoria overnight. Forecasters say southerly, of up to 100 km/h, will develop over western Vancouver Island overnight.

The winds will ease Sunday morning as the system moves further inland.

“Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions due to high winds,” Environment Canada says in a statement.
