VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – At about 7:30 am Tuesday morning cruise season in Vancouver will officially begin.
The Star Princess will arrive at the terminal at Canada Place to start the season.
Carmen Ortega is with the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority.
“About 895,000 passengers on 241 calls. We have about 32 different vessels from 14 cruise lines coming to Vancouver.”
She says that means a significant amount of money for the region.
“The average total impact is about $1.6-billion and that’s very significant when you look at the fact that this is a seasonal business.”
She says it’s going to be a busy season with the return of several ships and the arrival of some new ones.
“We’re going to see the largest ship that has ever come to Vancouver and the largest ship sailing to Alaska this year on a repositioning call, the Norwegian Bliss.”
Ortega says there are a few ways to beat the traffic.
“The best thing guests can do is just plan ahead. So if they can book their travel and their transportation in advance, then it just makes the flows a lot smoother in and out of the terminal.”
The Port of Vancouver will welcome its 25 millionth cruise passenger in May at Canada Place.
