VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The Pacific Baroque Orchestra is playing their final concert of the season this weekend.
They’re collaborating with the Vancouver Cantata Singers to perform Handel Coronation Anthems at the Chan Centre on Sunday April 14 at 3 p.m.
Matthew White, executive director of Early Music Vancouver, says part of what makes the performance special is that they use instruments from the time period when the music was made.
“People started to say, ‘Hey, what would happen if we actually went backwards? Would that make any difference to how this music sounds?’ And since then, people have recognized that actually, it does make a difference, and it makes a lot of the music make a lot more sense.”
White says the audience will find it an uplifting experience.
“If people are looking for a pick-me-up, this is just about the greatest music that’s ever been written for that,” he says. “Even if you walk in feeling low, you’re going to walk out full of joy and lightness.”
Early Music Vancouver will also reveal what’s to come in its 2019 to 2020 season at the performance. It takes place at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts.
