Whitecaps ask to meet supporters group before 2nd planned walkout at Saturday’s match

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — The Vancouver Whitecaps are taking a step to appease their unsettled fan-base.

The team has requested a meeting with their largest supporters group ahead of another planned walkout during Saturday’s game.

Southsiders Vice President Paul Sabourin-Hertzog says he was surprised the team asked them for a meeting, and he’s not quite sure what they want to say.

But he adds if they’re hoping to avoid the planned 35th minute walkout, that’s probably not going to happen.

“I would think for us to cancel our plans for the walkout we would need to see some very strong commitments from the Whitecaps, and I don’t get the sense that that level of action is going to be a result of this meeting,” he says.

Ultimately, Sabourin-Herzog and the Southsider are insisting the organization deal with the abuse allegations against the club’s former coach directly.

He says his group will not be satisfied until the female players who made the accusations feel they’ve been heard.
