Charges likely against Surrey teenager following assault

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – Surrey RCMP is now recommending charges to the BC Prosecution Service following separate incidents involving two teenagers at Fraser Heights Secondary school only days after suggesting that may not be necessary.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested and released on a promise to appear for a future court date.

Sgt. Chad Greig of the Surrey RCMP says the decision to forward a report was made after careful consideration and consultation with the affected parties.

“The Surrey RCMP is advising the public that charges will be forwarded to the BC Prosecution Service for charge assessment, with respect to separate incidents involving youths at the secondary school in the Fraser Heights area,” Greig says.

The incidents occurred on May 31 and June 3.

On June 5, Surrey RCMP reported ‘alternative’ punishments had been arranged for all the kids involved. This included no longer being allowed to finish out their school year at Fraser Heights.

Police got involved after video surfaced of a boy getting kicked in the face, but the victim’s father indicated stronger action needed to be taken.
