LAS VEGAS (NEWS 1130) – Giving Tuesday was apparently the busiest day of the year for a Canadian company that uses technology to facilitate charity.
There was an estimated $1.6-billion of giving in all of 2019, according to Benevity Vice President of Engineering John Mortimer.
The Calgary-based firm provides corporations worldwide with a cloud-based platform for employees to give — money that’s often matched by employers.
“They’re the world’s most iconic brands,” Mortimer told NEWS 1130 at the AWS re:Invent conference in Las Vegas. “Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Google, Microsoft.”
On personal data, Mortimer says the amount Benevity keeps is an absolute minimum. However, he says it uses non-identifiable data to build better programs and grow the business.
NEWS 1130 is a guest of the conference, which does not have editorial control.
Editor’s Note: This article has been updated to correct the estimated total of giving in all of 2019, and to clarify that money is often matched by employers.
