BURNABY (NEWS 1130) — Like many industries, the film sector has taken a massive hit due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but a Burnaby studio is hoping the worst days are behind as it signs a long-term deal with Netflix.
Given each project generates hundreds of jobs, the deal means thousands of people will be involved in various films and shows over the coming years.
Canadian Motion Picture Park President Alec Fatalevich says Netflix will use seven of the 18 stages.
“Now the workforce is very well-trained and continues to grow,” he says. “We have a really bright future ahead of us.”
He says he hopes the streaming service will eventually use the whole facility at some point down the line.

While Fatalevich isn’t at liberty to discuss all the details, he says “It’s a very, very big deal for us. It’s also a big deal for Netflix because Netflix is a high-quality company always looking for the best of the best.”
The studio has previously been involved in major blockbusters like Skyscraper, as well as mainstream franchises, including Twilight.
Meanwhile, a studio head told NEWS 1130 more than 60 projects will be shooting simultaneously in Vancouver next month.
