VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The daylight shooting of a 42-year-old man carrying a baby in a car seat on Vancouver’s west side Tuesday was targeted, according to the Vancouver Police Department.
Two men have been arrested in connection with the shooting, which happened around 5:45 p.m. in the area of Dunbar Street and 29th Avenue.
According to police, the man who was carrying a baby in a car seat was accompanied by a woman and a three-year-old child as they left a restaurant when possibly two people opened fire on them.
The shooting suspects sped away in a car, but collided with a parked vehicle. They then got out of their vehicle and ran off.
“Officers apprehended the suspects a short distance away, while specially-trained Emergency Response Team medics applied first aid until paramedics arrived,” says Cont. Tania Visintin.
“This was a reckless act in a heavily populated area, very early in the evening,” Visintin adds. “It’s frightening for the neighbourhood and the consequences could have been far worse.”
Investigators add while the man was hit, the woman and child who were with the victim escaped unharmed.
Pamela, who lives in the area, explains she saw an SUV surrounded by officers a few blocks to the east at Blenheim around the dinner hour Tuesday.
“Guns were drawn, so everybody had to do a U-turn and go the other way. But I saw the grey SUV with all four doors wide open, and one young man sitting with handcuffs on the curb,” she says.
