Fatal Coquitlam shooting not a gang hit: homicide team

COQUITLAM (NEWS 1130) — Saturday’s deadly shooting of a 42-year-old man in a residential area of Coquitlam was not a gang hit, according to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.

Police were called to the scene just before 6 p.m. One man, who has since been identified as Mir Aali Hussain, was found by officers on the ground beside his white 2020 Toyota Highlander with gunshot wounds in the area of Henderson Avenue and Hart Street.

IHIT says Hussain was pronounced dead at the scene. In a statement, homicide investigators say Hussain has no obvious ties to the Lower Mainland gang conflict, but was known to police.

The suspect drove away immediately in a stolen 2002 red Buick Century with one hubcap on the rear passenger wheel, according to IHIT.

“There were at least two people on board. This suspect vehicle was seen driving in the area of Hart Street and Henderson Avenue for at least 20 minutes prior to the shooting,” a statement adds.

On Sunday, Langley RCMP found the suspect’s vehicle parked near 260 Street and 30A Avenue in Aldergrove.

“Attached to the vehicle were stolen licence plates that are believed to have been stolen in the Guildford neighbourhood of Surrey on May 22, 2021.”

Anyone with dashcam video and/or anyone who witnessed the shooting is urged to contact IHIT immediately at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca. If you’d like to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
