B.C. records 13 deaths from COVID-19, 667 new cases

VICTORIA (NEWS 1130) — Thirteen more lives have been lost to COVID-19 in B.C. in the last 24 hours, with 11 of those deaths in the Fraser Health region and two in Interior Health.
An additional 667 new cases were recorded Friday, nearly a third in the hard-hit Northern Health region where new restrictions came into effect Friday. The Fraser Health region saw the highest number of new infections, with 246, while Northern Health saw 184. In Interior Health, 101 more people have tested positive, and in Vancouver Coastal there have been 75.
The update from Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix also showed a slight decrease in hospitalizations, down to 367 from 378 the day before. There are 152 people in intensive care.
People who have not been fully vaccinated accounted for 76.3 per cent of hospitalizations between Sept. 30 and Oct. 13. The rate of immunization continues to inch upward, with 83 per cent of those eligible having received two doses, and 89 per cent with one.

There has been one new healthcare facility outbreak at GR Baker Memorial Hospital in Quesnel. An outbreak at Delta’s Good Samaritan Delta View Care Centre is now over.
There are 19 active outbreaks.
In long-term care: Willingdon Care Centre, Westminster House, Magnolia Gardens, Manoah Manor, Cherington Place, West Shore Laylum (Fraser Health); Cottonwoods Care Centre, Joseph Creek Care Village, Overlander, Village by the Station, Haven Hill Retirement Centre (Interior Health); and Wrinch Memorial Hospital (Northern Health).
In acute care: Mission Memorial Hospital (Fraser Health); University Hospital of Northern BC, GR Baker Memorial Hospital (Northern Health); and Tofino General Hospital (Island Health).
In assisted or independent living: Sunset Manor, Evergreen Manor (Fraser Health); and Cooper Place (Vancouver Coastal Health).
