A man has been arrested in Port Moody in connection with the death of Trina Hunt.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has confirmed the arrest to CityNews.

“No charges have been laid at this time. As such, I cannot release any names,” said Sgt. David Lee with IHIT.

Neighbours of Hunt’s Port Moody home where she lived with her husband say they saw police vehicles in the area on Friday.

It’s been over a year since the 48-year-old was first reported missing by her husband, Iain in January 2021.

The Port Moody woman’s disappearance kicked off a massive community effort to find her. Police, search and rescue crews, and hundreds of volunteers scoured the area around her Heritage Woods home in the hopes of finding her.

But her case took a tragic turn nearly three and half months later. IHIT confirmed human remains found in Hope in March had been identified as Hunt, though investigators did not divulge the discovery until May.

Previously, Port Moody Police said they did not believe foul play was involved in her disappearance, but the case was reclassified as a homicide.

In a Facebook group dedicated to locating Hunt, her family offered a $50,000 reward for any information leading to charges or arrests connected to her death.

Days after the family put up a reward, police once again turned their attention to Hunt’s former home, executing a search warrant at the house as well as that of her husband’s family in Mission.

No arrests or updates were made at that time.

When the family and friends marked Hunt’s one-year anniversary since her disappearance, they said despite the year of unknowns at the time, they remained hopeful that answers would one day come.

Vigils have been held for Hunt, and her loved ones have continued to share memories of the woman they dearly miss.

CityNews has spoken with members of Hunt’s family who say they haven’t been given any details on the name of the suspect.

Monday, June 6, would have been Hunt’s 50th birthday.
