A popular B.C. tourist destination has made Time Magazine’s list of the world’s 50 Greatest Places of 2022.
Tofino made the cut as one of only two Canadian communities in the ranking. Toronto was also listed.
The B.C. hot spot is described by Time as one that is “bustling” and surrounded by the UNESCO Clayoquot Sound Biosphere Reserve.
Nature is the underlying theme when it comes to Tofino, with Time noting the many outdoor activities people can take in while visiting the village, which is on the traditional territory of the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation of the Nuu-chah-nulth people.

Other notable mentions on this year’s list go to the Galapagos Islands, Great Barrier Reef in Australia, and Valencia, Spain.
But not every entry is on Earth. The International Space Station is also listed, with Time noting this selection is “Out of this world.”
Earlier this year, a U.S.-based company launched its first crew with three tourists on board — each of whom paid $55 million USD for the experience.

Aboard the private charter flight, arranged by the Axiom Space company, was Canadian entrepreneur Mark Pathy, along with Larry Connor from the U.S. and Eytan Stibbe from Israel. The three businessmen were escorted to space by an astronaut.
Included in the $55-million price tag was the trip itself, as well as meals and accommodation aboard the ISS.
Axiom is targeting next year for its second private flight to the space station, with more customer trips expected to follow. The company plans to add its own rooms to the orbiting complex beginning in 2024.
