Chilliwack election: Ken Popove re-elected mayor, Barry Neufeld out as school trustee

Chilliwack voters have re-elected Ken Popove as mayor.
Popove was up against just one other candidate, Ian Carmichael.
However, it’s a name that’s missing from the list of school trustees that is a standout for many in this election.
Barry Neufeld will not be serving as a school trustee, with seven other candidates elected. Neufeld has been marred in controversy through his terms on the school board, drawing major backlash for his views on SOGI 123, among other matters.
Most recently, Neufeld came under fire for comments he made about another candidate, Carin Bondar, who said she plans to sue him for defamation.
Earlier this year, a petition to remove Neufeld as trustee through a BC Supreme Court petition failed.
Bondar will serve on the school board alongside Willow Reichelt, David Swankey, Margaret Reid, Teri Westerby, Heather Maahs, and Richard Procee.
Six councillors have also been elected, including Jason Lum, Chris Kloot, Nicole Hutema Read, Jeff Shields, Harv Westeringh, and Bud Mercer.
