The family of an Indigenous man who died after being shot with a beanbag gun by Vancouver Police says it’s suing the police department and the City.
Chris Amyotte, 41, died on Aug. 22 near East Hastings Street and Gore Avenue after he went into medical distress and lost conciseness, according to police.
Witnesses said before police arrived, Amyotte had been bear sprayed and ran into a convenience store to get a carton of milk, which is often used to bring relief when someone is pepper sprayed.
In a tweet, Amyotte’s cousin says the City of Vancouver and Vancouver Police Department have been notified they’re being sued.
The City of Vancouver and Vancouver Police have been notified they are being sued. Shout out to Simon Buck from Buck & Dlab Law for taking this case on. I’m attaching our family’s Go Fund Me page. Anything helps! Megwetch! ❤️
