Vancouver police are hoping to identify three suspects they say stabbed a man on the Granville strip last month.
The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says on Jan. 14 around 11 p.m., officers were called to reports of the stabbing near the Granville Street SkyTrain station.
In a video released by police, it shows three people walking past a person experiencing homelessness, with one appearing to steal his hat and bag before the three try to run away. As that’s happening, a man in a red sweater is seen intervening with the thieves, leading to an altercation.
The man in the red sweater is shown getting punched in the face, and then stabbed in the chest before the three others run off.
Police say the 30-year-old victim, from New Westminster, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and has since been released.
Const. Tania Visintin says the victim was visiting the city to celebrate his birthday.
“When he stepped out of the SkyTrain station he saw a group of men he believed were trying to steal a bag from a homeless person,” she said.
“We have been working to identify the suspects since this incident and are now releasing video surveillance with hopes someone will recognize them and call police.”
