Donnie Rosa vacates position at Vancouver Park Board

After being head of Vancouver’s Park Board since 2020, Donnie Rosa is leaving their position as general manager.

The City of Vancouver says they thank Rosa for their service, leadership, and contributions to Vancouver’s parks and recreation system.

“We especially want to acknowledge their pivotal role leading Vancouver Park Board during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as their extensive efforts working with the City and provincial agencies to end the encampment in Strathcona Park and to house the individuals sheltering there,” the City said in an email to CityNews.

In a statement from the Green Party of Vancouver, Park Board Commissioner Tom Digby applauded Rosa’s work, namely steps taken towards “reconciliation, social equity, and civic engagement.”

“I will deeply miss them, staff will miss them, and sadly the impact of this departure will be felt throughout the city.”

The City of Vancouver says Steve Jackson, currently the Park Board’s director of business services, will serve as Acting General Manager as they look for a new person to fill the position.

The City did not elaborate on why Rosa left their position.
