MUST-WATCH: Arnold takes on streaming

By James Mackin

The debut of the man who played the Terminator on a streaming service is here now! But will the former Governor of California’s streaming debut take the top spot, or could it go to a comedy from Sebastian Maniscalco? Perhaps a miniseries about the Sixties Scoop? You’ll have to keep reading to find out!

About My Father

Where to watch: Cinemas

First up, a family comedy about how hard family can be!

About My Father is a new film based off of the stand-up comedy of Sebastian Maniscalco (from the Irishman and Green Book). He plays a man hoping to propose to his girlfriend (played by Leslie Bibb from Jupiter’s Legacy) at a Fourth of July long weekend with her family there. The only problem is his immigrant father (played by Robert De Niro from Goodfellas and Meet the Parents) wants to come along, and he’s quite the obnoxious type. This film also stars Kim Cattrall (from Sex and the City), David Rasche (from Succession), and Anders Holm (from Workaholics).

Little Bird

Where to watch: Crave

Next up, a drama about finding your family!

Little Bird is a co-production between Crave and APTN. It’s about a woman called Esther Rosenblum (played by Darla Contois from Dhaliwal ’15), who originally known by the name Behzig Little Bird. She was a victim of the Sixties Scoop, taken from her birth family and relocated to a Jewish one. Now a married adult, she’s become determined to find her birth family no matter what. This miniseries also stars Eric Schweig (from the Last of the Mohicans), Lisa Edelstein (from House), and Alanna Bale (from Kicking Blood).

Chip ‘n’ Dale: Park Life (Season 2)

Where to watch: Disney+

Now, it’s time for a little animated fun!

Chip ‘n’ Dale: Park Life is a show about the adventures of Chip and Dale, two anthropomorphic chipmunks. The two have been around since the 1940s, but this show reimagines them in the modern world getting into crazy adventures in the park. This show is co-created by Disney and French production company Xilam, and is predominantly non-verbal. That means the show plays kind of like a silent movie, relying on visual language to tell the story. And as always, it’s very cute!

You can watch both seasons of this show on Disney+ now!

Kandahar

Kandahar is a new movie starring Gerard Butler (from 300 and Olympus Has Fallen) as a CIA operative working in Afghanistan. His cover is blown, and various special forces are on his tail trying to kill him. He’s got to get to the province of Kandahar alongside his translator (played by Navid Negahban from Legion) to find the extraction point, but this could be the end of the line for them. This film also stars Ali Fazal (from Mirzapur), Nina Toussaint-White (from EastEnders) and Corey Johnson (from Hellboy).

FUBAR

Where to watch: Netflix

Last but certainly not least, the debut of the Terminator in streaming televison!

FUBAR stars Arnold Schwarzenegger (from the Terminator, Last Action Hero, and Batman & Robin) as a recently retired CIA operative. He’s hoping to reconnect with his family, having spent far too much time apart from them. But he’s called back in the game to help one operative trapped behind enemy lines. When he goes to rescue her, he discovers it’s actually his daughter (played by Monica Barbaro from Top Gun: Maverick). The two have to work together to escape, and they learn that they don’t actually know that much about each other. This show also stars Jay Baruchel (from BlackBerry), Aparna Brielle (from A.P. Bio), and Fortune Feimster (from the Mindy Project).
