A 300-pound female grizzly bear has been relocated after it was spotted near a hotel in Whistler Saturday morning.
“The bear was spotted near the Fairmont Hotel shortly before the Whistler half marathon was due to begin,” the B.C. Conservation Officer Service said.
The COS says it received multiple reports of the bear around the area over the past few days, and after consultation with wildlife biologists, decided to move the bear.
The Conservation Officer Service (COS) attended Rainbow Park today following reports of a Grizzly Bear in the area and nearby bike trails. Reminder: leash dogs, give bears space, never approach or feed them, do not to leave food unattended. Report sightings: 1-877-952-7277. pic.twitter.com/0tAf1DmPHv

Following the sightings, the service says the bear was tranquilized, captured, and relocated to a spot “within its home range.”
Although the COS notes no “aggressive bear behaviour” was reported in this case, the service warns people to be mindful when outdoors.
“To help prevent wildlife conflicts, the COS asks the public to ensure all attractants, such as garbage, pet food and bird seed, are securely stored,” the COS adds.
