IHIT called into New Westminster after ‘suspicious death’

The Lower Mainland’s homicide investigation team has been called into New Westminster after a “suspicious death” in the city.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says the New Westminster Police Department (NWPD) was called to a home on Quayside Drive near 10th Street for a “check-well being request” just after 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

IHIT says police officers found a man dead inside the home, with the death being deemed “suspicious.”

“The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been deployed and will be working in partnership with the NWPD and the BC Coroners Service,” IHIT said in its statement Monday.

The homicide team says it is now trying to confirm the identity of the man,

“IHIT have taken conduct of this investigation and we will be working closely with the New Westminster Police Department’s Major Crime Unit,” Detective Const. Keegan Ayre said. “We believe this is an isolated incident and there is no ongoing risk to the public.”

IHIT is now urging anyone with information to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
