Surrey collision injures 2 people, serious crime unit called in: RCMP

Police say two people have been hospitalized and a man has been arrested after a collision in Surrey’s Cloverdale neighbourhood Thursday afternoon.

The Surrey RCMP says it happened around 1 p.m. when it got reports of two pedestrians that were hit by a vehicle along 172 Street near 59 Avenue.

The two 24-year-old pedestrians — a man and woman — were taken to the hospital with serious injuries, police say.

Officers say a 24-year-old suspect was arrested nearby shortly after the collision.

Mounties say the suspect has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of assault with a weapon. Police did not provide details on the type of weapon referred to.

The Surrey RCMP’s serious crime unit has taken over the investigation, “working to determine all the circumstances surrounding this incident.”
