Port Moody police had an unusual call Monday evening, responding to help a raccoon that was trapped in a dumpster.
The Port Moody Police Department says a security guard at a construction site near Clarke Road called officers around 9 p.m. after hearing the sounds of an animal wailing in distress.
When officers arrived, they found the critter stuck inside the trash receptacle, unable to climb out.
A call of a raccoon in distress resulted in a rescue of the 4-legged bandit last night.
Officers located the crying critter in a large receptacle & used a 2×4 as a ramp to help it escape from the bin. Happy to report the raccoon was uninjured & carried on! ???? pic.twitter.com/Ka2NdHe3nL

Officers created a makeshift ramp out of a piece of wood for the raccoon, and it was able to climb out on its own.
It appeared to be unharmed.
“This is certainly a unique call service but it demonstrates how versatile policing can be,” said Const. Sam Zacharias.
“Often times we have to think outside of the box – or receptacle – to troubleshoot and solve problems.”
The raccoon is not being held in police custody and was released on its own recognizance.
