Residential fire leaves five displaced: VFS

Emergency crews in Vancouver responded to a residential house fire Saturday evening that left five people displaced.

At approximately 7:20 p.m., Assistant Fire Chief Jarret Gray says Vancouver Fire Services responded to a fire at a “Vancouver Special” style home, directly across from Memorial South Park.

The fire started on the ground floor, Gray says. He adds about five people were evacuated from the home and no injuries were reported.

Based upon the condition of the home, Gray says he doesn’t think the residents will be returning to the structure Saturday.

“It’s heavily smoke damaged and some of the rooms have been completely… ripped apart,” he said.

The fire has since been knocked down, but Gray says the cause is still unknown.
