Winnipeg homicide team investigating death of B.C. trucker

Winnipeg police say homicide detectives are investigating the death of a 34-year-old long-distance trucker from Delta, B.C.

Farah Ali Mohamud was found dead at an apartment building in West Broadway on Boxing Day — the same building that was the site of an alleged hostage situation just days later, the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) says.

Police explain a person of interest in that homicide investigation was fatally shot by officers Thursday – two days after the man’s body was found.

Investigators say the man’s abandoned truck was located in West Broadway on Dec. 26.

“The truck was parked, locked, but my son was not there,” Ali, Farah’s father, told CityNews earlier this week.

Farah’s body was found later that night, on the fifth floor of the building on Furby Street.

Two days later and two floors down, that building was the same one where a man with an “edged weapon” allegedly held four people hostage, including a young child.

Officers eventually shot and killed the man, who has since been deemed a person of interest in Farah’s death. The victims were all physically unharmed.

The truck driver’s family told CityNews prior to his body being discovered that the father of three, described as a loving family man, was in Winnipeg making a delivery when he went missing last Friday. His disappearance was reported to police the next day.

His father and brother, who live in Edmonton, drove overnight to help with the search.

“On Friday, he called his wife to ask if the kids had came home from school and that they were safe, and that was the conversation that he had with his wife,” Farah’s father said in a previous interview with CityNews.
