‘Suspicious death’ reported in Port Coquitlam prompts days-long response

The RCMP says reports of a “suspicious death” at a property in Port Coquitlam Tuesday is behind a days-long police presence along Burns Road.

The Coquitlam RCMP explains in an email that officers were called to a home in the area of Burns Road and Dominion Avenue just before 8 a.m. on April 16.

This prompted the closure of Burns Road between Prairie and Dominion avenues for several hours, with the road reopening later Tuesday around 2 p.m.

The RCMP says members were on scene Thursday “executing a search warrant, which is expected to take a significant amount of time.”

In addition to investigators, an “Emergency Command” vehicle was also seen at the residence Thursday.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) confirms it is aware of the situation but tells CityNews it has not been deployed.

Mounties also confirmed in their email that they “have liaised with IHIT,” adding “the investigation is still being conducted by Coquitlam RCMP.”

“There is no risk to the public,” the RCMP said.

No further details were provided about the incident.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact the Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550 and quote file 2024-9498.
