Two dead after crash on Okanagan luxury racetrack

Two people have been killed following a collision at a luxury motorsports club racetrack in Oliver.

In a release Thursday, the Oliver RCMP said its investigation found that the driver of a sportscar failed to make a turn on the course and crashed into a cement barrier.

The car was reportedly moving at a high speed, participating in a private event on the specialized track at “Area 27 Motorsports Park” in Oliver — a town in the southern Okanagan region.

“Tragically, both the driver and passenger succumbed to injuries they sustained,” said Cpl. James Grandy, a BC RCMP spokesperson.

He said criminality is not believed to be a factor in the investigation.

Area 27 bills itself as an “exclusive membership luxury motorsports club.”

The RCMP has not released any information about the victims’ identities.
