Police have released the name of the man who died after an early morning shooting in Surrey last week.
The Lower Mainland’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken over the investigation into the July 5 shooting that killed 25-year-old Jatindeep Singh from Langley, the Surrey RCMP says.
Police received reports of a person suffering from gunshot wounds on July 5 around 5:30 a.m., and officers found the injured man around 122 Street and Mall Access in the city’s Strawberry Hill neighbourhood.
“Investigators are working to determine all of the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Evidence-gathering is still underway, but initial indications are this was a targeted, isolated incident,” Corp. James Mason said in a statement at the time of the incident.
In an update on the case Friday, Mounties say that although the man was taken to hospital, he “has unfortunately died from his injuries.”
Police say Singh did not have a criminal record and confirm that the shooting was targeted and isolated.
IHIT says it would like to speak to Singh’s friends and associates. As well, anyone with dash cam or CCTV video from the area around 73 Avenue and 122 Street between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m. is asked to call the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
