Pedestrian critical after being struck in Maple Ridge

A pedestrian was rushed to hospital in critical condition following a collision Tuesday night in Maple Ridge.

The Ridge Meadows RCMP says it happened just before 11 p.m. along the Haney Bypass at Callaghan Avenue, just north of the Port Haney train station.

Footage from the scene shows a Toyota hatchback with a damaged windshield and hood.

Mounties say speed and impairment “are not considered to be factors at this time.”

The BC Emergency Health Services tells 1130 NewsRadio it received reports of the pedestrian being struck around 10:50 p.m. Two ambulances were dispatched to the call, and one person was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Witnesses say the RCMP’s Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) was called in to investigate. Mounties add the investigation is “active and ongoing.”
