1 dead, 1 injured after possible gang-related shooting in Langley Saturday: RCMP

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been called in after a shooting in Langley left one man dead and another injured, the RCMP said late Saturday.

Mounties responded to shots fired in the area of 196 Street and 84 Avenue at around 6:30 p.m. First responders found two men suffering from gunshot wounds when they arrived, police say.

One of the victims died at the scene, police say. The other is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to survive.

In an update released Sunday afternoon, the RCMP says the deceased victim has been identified, but his name is being withheld until his family can be notified.

He was known to police.

As well, the update says a secondary scene — this one at 208th Street and 78th Avenue — has been located. No further information about this second scene has been provided.

“Preliminary indications are that this shooting is linked to the ongoing B.C. gang conflict,” the RCMP said.

“Although no suspects have yet been identified, this is believed to be a targeted shooting and an isolated event.”

Police say the investigation is in its initial stages. Homicide investigators will remain in the area to follow up. A canvass in both areas is being conducted.

Any witnesses or anyone who may have CCTV or dashcam footage from the area between 3:30 pm. and 6:30 p.m. is asked to call IHIT at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or email ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
