Rockslide closes HWY 7 in both directions near Hope; no estimated time of reopening

Highway 7 has been closed in both directions near Hope due to a rockslide, the Lower Mainland District says, and as of Saturday afternoon, there is no estimated time of reopening.

“Rock scaling is underway at the site of this week’s rockslide on Highway 7 west of hope,” Craig Chambers, public affairs officer with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, told 1130 NewsRadio Saturday.

“One the remaining loose rock has been brought down, clean-up and repairs will begin.”

Hydro lines were downed and the pavement suffered “significant” damage in the slide.

Photos posted online show rocks and debris completely covering the road.

Use Highway 1 and Highway 9 as alternate routes.

DriveBC says it will provide a further update at 7 p.m. Saturday.
