The VPD says it has made an arrest and is recommending criminal charges after an attempted arson at Vancouver City Hall Friday evening.
Police responded to a 911 call just after 10 p.m. after a man allegedly used an incendiary device to start a fire outside the entrance to the building at Cambie Street and West 12th Avenue.
“VPD officers responded immediately and arrested the suspect nearby,” Sgt. Steve Addison said.
“The 36-year-old is not believed to be a Vancouver resident and the motive for the incident remains under investigation.”
Police say a witness intervened to prevent the fire from spreading.
The suspect remains in custody.
