Police in Richmond say a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle as they were crossing the Steveston Highway off-ramp from Highway 99 early Tuesday morning.
In a release, the Richmond RCMP says that just after 6:15 a.m., police received reports that the woman was hit while crossing the road at a marked crosswalk.

“Drivers are reminded to be aware of their surroundings and anticipate pedestrians crossing at crosswalks,” said Corp. Kenneth Lau. “Pedestrians are reminded to make eye contact with the driver and ensure they acknowledge your intent to cross.”
The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene, police say, and the Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) has taken over the case.
The collision caused major delays for drivers around Steveston Highway and Highway 99.
The incident had one westbound and one eastbound lane closed for more than five hours.
Police had also blocked the southbound Steveston Highway exit off Highway 99, and the northbound exit backed up heavily.
The exit ramp reopened to traffic just before 11:15 a.m.
You can take Westminster Highway as an alternate route.
Police are urging anyone with information or dash-cam footage to contact police at 604-278-1212 or Richmond_CCIT@rcmp-grc.gc.ca. Mounties say the investigation continues.
