Vancouver Island Mountie facing sexual assault charges

A Vancouver Island RCMP officer has been suspended with pay after he was charged with sexual assault with a weapon.

Court documents show Const. Jason Elias Sammoun is facing two counts of sexual assault that took place in Nanaimo between April and June last year, and one count of uttering threats in Victoria between April and October last year.

The BC Prosecution Service says the first count is for sexual assault causing bodily harm, and the second is for choking during the course of a sexual assault.

In a statement to 1130 NewsRadio, the RCMP said Sammoun is currently suspended with pay and his duty status is subject to continuous review and assessment.

“Immediately upon learning of the circumstances, a Code of Conduct investigation was initiated and remains ongoing,” said Staff Sgt. Kris Clark.

Sammoun was charged on Dec. 30, 2024 and his first appearance in court is set for Jan. 30, 2025.
