Police in Surrey say they seized a firearm and a loaded magazine in a vehicle during a traffic stop in the city’s Newton area Thursday.
The Surrey Police Service (SPS) Gang Crime Unit was patrolling the area near 140th Street and 78th Avenue around 11 p.m. when they saw a vehicle driving erratically.
When they stopped the vehicle, they found two knives, a firearm magazine loaded with .22 calibre rounds, and an unloaded .22 calibre rifle which police say had been modified to the size of a handgun.
“The driver and passenger, both of whom are known to police, were arrested and released on an undertaking pending further investigation and potential consideration of criminal charges by the BC Prosecution Service,” the SPS said in a news release.
The firearm will be subjected to forensic testing.
