Some Lower Mainland school districts closed Monday after weekend snowstorms

School districts across the Lower Mainland woke up Monday morning and had to decide whether to open for the day after multiple snowstorms over the weekend.

The Langley, Abbotsford, and Mission school districts closed due to the snow and unsafe road conditions. Public schools in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows are also closed.

Meanwhile, the Chilliwack School District says buses are running and classes will take place on Feb. 3. Public schools in North Vancouver, Vancouver, Surrey, and Burnaby are also open on Monday.

As for post-secondary institutes, Capilano University says its Lonsdale, kálax-ay, and Squamish campuses are open Monday, while its main campus in North Vancouver is closed.

The University of British Columbia says all in-person learning activities are cancelled at its main campus. Kwantlen Polytechnic’s Langley and Cloverdale campuses are closed until at least 12 p.m., while its other campuses remain open.

The University of the Fraser Valley also confirms that all campuses are closed Monday. BCIT confirms it too is closed.

Simon Fraser University and Langara, however, are open and classes will take place on Monday.

Meanwhile, Valley Christian School in Langley and Pacific Academy in Surrey are closed Monday.
