The Langley RCMP says the truck hit a barrier in the median, creating a massive debris field of around 100 metres long and a diesel spill.

The eastbound lanes were closed for almost seven hours, with the highway reopened to traffic just after 12:15 p.m.

1130 NewsRado Air Patrol Anchor Darren Grieve says one of the rear axles of the trailer had come off the rest of the truck. “It’s back a couple hundred yards from the semi and the trail itself,” he explained.

“[Police] have traffic exiting at 264th and that exit lane turns right back into an on-ramp, so it’s fairly easy to get around this, but they do have both lanes blocked eastbound at 264th on Highway 1,” Grieve said.

“They’re going to have an awful lot of debris to clean up once they get this semi and the trailer removed.”

Police add that no one was hurt in the crash.
