Two dead after early morning Abbotsford crash

A single-vehicle crash killed two people early Thursday morning, the Abbotsford Police Department says.

The incident happened just after 12:30 a.m., the AbbyPD says, when emergency crews responded to the crash along King Road, near Clearbrook Road.

“Upon arrival, they discovered a heavily damaged pickup truck that had struck a telephone pole and flipped over. The two occupants of the truck were noted suffering from life-threatening injuries,” Sgt. Paul Walker said in a statement.

“Despite the immediate efforts of civilians and first responders, both occupants tragically succumbed to their injuries at the scene.”

The Lower Mainland’s Integrated Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Service (ICARS) is on the scene helping AbbyPD investigators.

King Road is closed between Clearbrook Road and Columbia Street. There’s no estimated time of reopening.

“As you can appreciate, 12:30 in the morning, there’s not a lot of people out on the road, so witnesses are kind of few and far between. But we are appealing to anyone that might have been travelling the King Road stretch around the 12:30 time, that might have dash camera footage, not necessarily of the collision, but anybody else that was travelling down that road,” Walker told 1130 NewsRadio Thursday.

“Sometimes the information that is garnered from that dash cam footage is little pieces that put together the bigger picture of what occurred that morning,” he said.

“Obviously, it was raining, the roads are wet — those are things that are being looked at, as well as speed and things like that that occur in any crash, to sort of peel back what occurred and give us some answers to what led up to this tragic loss of life overnight.”

Police are urging anyone with information about the crash, or those who may have dash cam footage, to contact police at 604-859-5225.
