All 5 teens accused in Kelowna swarming attack plead guilty

Several months after a 13-year-old teen was lured to Gyro Beach in Kelowna, swarmed, and attacked by a group of people, the last two of five teenagers accused in the case have entered guilty pleas.

B.C. Crown Counsel confirms to 1130 NewsRadio that one young person entered a guilty plea back in January and was sentenced a couple of weeks ago to a two-year probation order.

Guilty pleas were entered by four others on April 11, 25, and the most recent two on May 6.

Pre-sentencing hearings have been scheduled for the four in June and July.

Due to a publication ban, implemented as those involved are minors, little information can be published about the court proceedings.

The swarming attack happened last fall and was caught on camera.

The teen’s father, whom 1130 is not naming, previously told 1130 NewsRadio that on the night of the attack, a friend invited his daughter to Gyro Beach for a birthday party.

According to him, when she got there, the friend left, and she was jumped by a group of teens who punched and kicked her and pulled her hair. She was thrown to the ground and surrounded.

In the days and weeks that followed, police and politicians condemned the actions of those involved, with the victim’s father saying that his daughter will recover physically, but she has a long road of healing ahead of her.
