Ernie Klassen, who has been working as a councillor for the City of White Rock since 2022, has announced he is hanging up his hat and heading to Parliament Hill.
Klassen says he is moving away from municipal politics to focus on his role as the newly elected Liberal Member of Parliament for South Surrey–White Rock.
“After reflection and in consultation with the Office of the Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner and the Mayor of White Rock, I am resigning from my position as White Rock city councillor, effective immediately,” he posted on his Facebook page Friday.
“I look forward to continuing to listen to your concerns and hopes for our community.”
A White Rock resident since 2000, Klassen beat the Conservative incumbent, Kerry-Lynne Findlay, by around 3,000 votes. In addition to his work in politics, he owns flower-delivery company Ashberry & Logan.
