Abbotsford Police investigating sex assault near Fishtrap Creek

Police in Abbotsford say a woman was allegedly sexually assaulted while walking alone near Fishtrap Creek on Wednesday afternoon.

The Abbotsford Police Department says that around 12:45 p.m., officers got reports of the incident, which happened between the Judo Club and baseball fields.

“A female victim reported that she was walking alone in the area when she was approached by a male who attempted to engage her in conversation and followed her for a short distance. When the victim attempted to leave, the male sexually assaulted her,” Detective Jody Thomas said in a statement.

Police say the woman was able to run away and told a nearby person, who then called police.

“Although the victim was shaken by the incident, she did not sustain physical injuries,” Thomas explained.

AbbyPD officers, with help from the Lower Mianland District Integrated Police Dog Service, searched for the suspect; however, no one was found.

The suspect is described as a man in his 30s with a groomed beard, black hair, and brown eyes. According to police, he was wearing a black turban, a short-sleeved grey shirt, and navy pants at the time of the attack.
