North Vancouver Mounties ask witnesses to come forward after Cates Park boating incident

The North Vancouver RCMP says it is asking witnesses to come forward after last weekend’s fatal boating incident that claimed the life of a 10-year-old boy.

Police say they are appealing to anyone with information to “do the moral thing” and reach out to investigators.

“We would like to thank those individuals for doing the right thing to help us further our investigation,” said Corp. Mansoor Sahak.

“We have since learned through investigation that there may still be individuals with intimate knowledge of the collision and events prior, who have yet to come forward.”

Around 6:30 p.m. on June 7, police responded to multiple reports of a serious boating collision near Cates Park.

Police say a speed boat allegedly hit two children on an inflatable tube being towed by another boat.

A second 10-year-old child was injured and airlifted to hospital in serious condition.

The speedboat operator was arrested at the scene and released on Sunday with conditions.

No charges have been laid against him but he has a court date of Aug. 17.
