20-year-old missing after hike near Squamish

Police and search crews are asking for the public’s help locating a 20-year-old hiker who went missing near Shannon Falls Tuesday.
The Squamish RCMP says Alexander Nguyen went missing while sightseeing with his parents during the afternoon. He was reported missing later that day.
CLICK HERE TO LISTEN TO 1130 NEWSRADIO VANCOUVER LIVE!As of Wednesday afternoon, Mounties say the search is ongoing. Squamish Search and Rescue (SSR) members are also combing the area.
SSR says his last cell phone ping came from the Sea to Summit trail “just past where the trail connects with upper Shannon Falls” around 3:30 p.m.
Nguyen, who SSR has identified as Alex Mai, is described as a 5’8″, 121-pound Asian man with long black hair in a bun and brown eyes.
He was last seen wearing grey shorts, flip-flops, a tank top, and a crossbody bag.
Both police and SSR have released photos of the 20-year-old to help the public identify him.


Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call the Squamish RCMP at 604-892-6100.
“If hiking in the area, please keep an eye out for Alex,” said an SSR post to social media.
