SUV with dog inside stolen from Port Moody street

A family and a beloved pet were reunited this week after a man allegedly stole a vehicle in Port Moody with the victim’s dog on board.

The Port Moody Police Department (PMPD) says the dog was sat alone inside an idling SUV on Barnet Highway near Mary Street Tuesday morning, when an unknown man wearing a white hoodie entered the vehicle and drove away.

Police say the victim helped track the vehicle to South Coquitlam where officers found it parked and unoccupied.

A good Samaritan reportedly found the dog on a busy road in the same area and brought her to a nearby animal hospital.

“Fortunately, the dog was unharmed from the incident and has since been reunited with her family,” PMPD explained Thursday.

While the dog returned home, police say the vehicle has been seized for forensic examination.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage of the vehicle — a blue Hyundai Santa Fe — is asked to contact the police.
